VIKTORIYA SEREDA
Dr. Viktoriya Sereda is a distinguished sociologist and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 2020. She also holds the position of Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Ukrainian Catholic University and the VUIAS coordinator. Her academic journey includes teaching sociology at the Ukrainian Catholic University starting in 2015 and at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv since 2002.
Dr. Sereda's research interests lie at the intersection of urban sociology, sociology of everyday life, memory studies, nationalism, and identity studies. Her work has led to over 30 sociological research projects focusing on Ukrainian society and its regional dimensions. Notably, she was the head of the sociological team for the project “Region, Nation and Beyond: An Interdisciplinary and Transcultural Reconceptualization of Ukraine” from 2011 to 2017, organized by the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. In addition, she served as the MAPA Research Fellow at the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University during 2016-2017 and 2019-2020, where she developed a digital atlas of social changes in Ukraine post-Euromaidan.
Furthermore, Dr. Sereda is recognized for her significant contributions to the field of memory studies, particularly in the context of post-Euromaidan Ukraine. Her research projects have explored how war reshapes narratives of belonging and mnemonic practices in Ukrainian local communities, focusing on the role of internally displaced people (IDPs) in these processes.
