VERONICA ANGHEL
Dr. Veronica Anghel is a distinguished academic and lecturer at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Europe, part of Johns Hopkins University. Her expertise lies in the fields of International Development, Law, and Risk. She has had a significant impact in the area of European integration, the rule of law, and party politics in post-communist Europe.
Dr. Anghel's career includes notable positions and achievements. She has been a Visiting Fellow at the Robert Schuman Center - European University Institute and an Editorial Fellow at Government & Opposition. Her previous roles include being a Max Weber Fellow and Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department of the European University Institute, with research fellowships at prestigious institutions such as Stanford University (Fulbright), Johns Hopkins University, the Institute for Human Sciences Vienna, and the Institute for Central Europe Vienna. She received her Ph.D. summa cum laude from the University of Bucharest in co-direction with the University of Bordeaux.
Her contributions extend to practical political experience as well, having served as a foreign affairs advisor for the Romanian Presidential Administration and a Diplomatic Adviser for the Romanian Senate. Dr. Anghel is also the recipient of the 2020 ‘Rising Star’ Award from the European Consortium of Political Research, highlighting her significant contributions to the field. Her research and teachings focus on the challenges to democratic state building, party politics in post-communist Europe, and European integration. She has authored and co-authored several publications in respected journals and books, adding valuable insights into the political dynamics of Eastern Europe and the EU.
