Taras Kuzio
Taras Kuzio is a distinguished political scientist specializing in Ukrainian and post-Soviet politics, nationalism, and European integration. He currently serves as a Professor of Political Science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Ukraine. His academic journey includes a BA in Economics from the University of Sussex, an MA in Soviet and Eastern European Studies from the University of London, and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Birmingham
Kuzio has held various academic and research positions, including roles at the University of Alberta, George Washington University, University of Toronto, and Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the Slavic Research Centre, Hokkaido University in Japan, and an inaugural Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins University.
His research interests encompass Ukrainian political development, nationalism, and the geopolitical dynamics of the post-Soviet space. Kuzio has authored and edited numerous books, including Russia's War on Ukraine: The Four Roots of Putin's Invasion (Cambridge University Press, 2025), Fascism and Genocide: Russia’s War Against Ukrainians (Ibidem, 2023), and Russian Nationalism and the Russian-Ukrainian War (Routledge, 2022).
Beyond his academic contributions, Kuzio has been actively involved in policy analysis and consultancy. He has provided expertise to various governments and international organizations, including serving as a political consultant to governments and legal and business consultant to the private sector on legal and economic questions.
Kuzio's work has significantly influenced the understanding of Ukraine's political landscape and its relations with Russia, making him a prominent figure in the field of Eastern European studies.
