Dr. Susan Stewart is a notable American political scientist based in Germany, working as a Senior Fellow at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) in Berlin, focusing on Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Born in 1967 in Charlotte, North Carolina, she completed her doctoral degree in Political Science at the University of Mannheim in 2004, with her dissertation examining the low intensity of ethnopolitical conflict in Ukraine.
At the SWP, Dr. Stewart's research primarily involves Ukrainian domestic and foreign policy, EU-Russia relations, the development of civil society in Eastern Europe, and the promotion of democracy and human rights in foreign policy. Her professional career includes a research position at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research from 1997 to 2005 and a lecturer role at the Chair for Political Science and Contemporary History at the University of Mannheim between 2005 and 2007.
