ROMAN GONCHARENKO
Roman Goncharenko is an editor at Deutsche Welle (DW), focusing on Europe and Russia. His work primarily involves providing insightful commentary and analysis on Eastern European affairs, particularly the Russia's war in Ukraine. Goncharenko's expertise in these areas is frequently sought after, as he explains the historical and political factors that fuel tensions in the region. His role at DW includes covering a broad spectrum of topics related to European security, politics, and international relations, with a special emphasis on the dynamics between Russia and its neighboring countries. His contributions offer valuable perspectives on the complexities of Eastern European geopolitics and EU-Russia relations.
Born and raised in Ukraine, Roman studied foreign languages in Kharkiv, where he gained his first experience as a radio journalist. At Deutsche Welle Roman Goncharenko helped to create the Ukrainian editorial office and in parallel studied journalism and political science in Dortmund, interned in Cologne and New York. At that time, he began his cooperation with German radio stations, for which he wrote analytical programs about Eastern Europe.
For DW he works in several languages, he likes to report on events directly from the places where they happen, for example the revolutionary Maidan in Kiev in the winter of 2013-2014.
