ALEXANDER LIBMAN
Professor Dr. Alexander Libman is a distinguished academic currently serving as Professor of Russian and East European Politics at the Free University of Berlin since October 2020. His academic journey includes previous roles as Professor of Social Sciences and East European Studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 2016 to 2020, Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik from 2014 to 2016, and Assistant Professor of International Political Economy at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management from 2009 to 2014. Libman obtained his PhD from the University of Mannheim in 2009.
His research interests are diverse and encompass comparative authoritarianism, sub-national political regimes, informal interactions within bureaucratic hierarchies, and the impact of historical legacies on contemporary political and social development. This includes an analysis of the interplay between historical and contemporary factors in the development of particularist and universalist semantics within Russian social sciences.
