GABRIELE ABELS
Gabriele Abels is a political scientist specializing in comparative politics, European integration, and gender-focused governance. She is a Professor at the University of Tübingen and has been recognized as a Jean Monnet Professor for her work on EU studies. Her research examines EU governance, democratization processes, regionalism, and the integration of gender equality into policy frameworks.
Abels has led and contributed to major projects such as A Union of Equality, which evaluates EU gender equality strategies, and PRRIDE, a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence analysing regionalism within European democracies. Her scholarship investigates how institutional structures, policy mechanisms, and societal norms shape governance outcomes in Europe, providing insights into the interplay between institutions and social change. Beyond academia, she is actively engaged in leadership and advisory roles, having served as President of the German Political Science Association and as a member of the Constitutional Court of Baden-Württemberg.
