CHRISTIAN EGENHOFER
Christian Egenhofer is a leading authority on European energy policy, climate governance, and sustainability, with decades of experience at the intersection of research and policy-making. He is Senior Research Associate at the School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. From 2000 to 2019, he headed the Energy, Resources, and Climate Change Unit at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels, where he played a central role in shaping debates on the EU’s energy transition, climate legislation, and the integration of renewable energy into European markets.
His work explores the strategic challenges of aligning energy security with climate objectives, examining the regulatory frameworks and policy instruments that drive Europe’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Egenhofer has analysed the implications of EU energy and climate policy for member states, industry, and neighbouring regions, highlighting the geopolitical and economic dimensions of Europe’s decarbonisation agenda.
