BEN TALLIS
Dr. Benjamin Tallis is a distinguished expert in European and international security. He joined the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in September 2022 as a Senior Research Fellow at the Alfred von Oppenheim Center for the Future of Europe. At DGAP, he is leading the "Action Group Zeitenwende" project and hosts the podcast "BerlinSide Out."
Dr. Tallis has an impressive background in security studies. He has worked for the European Union on security missions in Ukraine and the Balkans and served as a policy officer at the European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management in Berlin. His previous roles include heading the Centre for European Security at the Institute of International Relations Prague, where he also advised various European governments and edited the journal New Perspectives.
His expertise covers a wide range of areas, including European (in)security politics, European integration, EU foreign, security, and neighborhood policies, and geopolitics. Dr. Tallis holds a doctorate from the University of Manchester and is recognized for his contributions to leading academic journals and media outlets. He has also authored significant works, including "To Ukraine with Love: Essays on Russia’s War and Europe’s Future" (2022) and "Identities, Borderscapes, Orders: (In)Security, (Im)Mobility, and Crisis in the EU and Ukraine" (2023).
