ANDREA GAWRICH
Andrea Gawrich is a distinguished political scientist specializing in international integration and Eastern European studies. Since 2012, she has held the position of Professor of Political Science with a focus on international integration at Justus Liebig University Giessen. She also serves as Vice-Director of the Giessen Centre for Eastern European Studies and has been a board member of the German Political Science Association (DGfP).
Gawrich completed her PhD at Ruhr University Bochum and obtained her post-doctoral qualification (Habilitation) at the University of Kiel. Her academic career includes research and teaching positions at the University of Kiel and a visiting professorship at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Her research interests encompass regional security governance, international conflict management, European Neighborhood Policy, international democracy promotion, and minority integration in Eastern Europe. She has published extensively in journals such as European Security, Journal of Global Security Studies, and East European Politics and Societies.
Currently, Gawrich leads several research projects, including an EU-funded initiative on EU democracy promotion, a German Research Foundation (DFG) project on security organizations in Eastern Europe, and a project funded by the German-Polish Science Foundation on the politicization of the EU-Eastern Partnership.
Her scholarly work significantly contributes to the understanding of Eastern European integration processes, security dynamics, and the role of international organizations in promoting democracy and stability in the region.
